What is Casey Hushion up to?

As you may already know, Casey Hushion is NC Theatre's Interim Artistic Director. In her position, she helps with all creative aspects of choosing a season, working with the creative team on upcoming shows, helps with casting and will come down for each show's rehearsals to ensure everything is running smoothly. While she's away from NC Theatre, she has been working on some exciting projects!

One project in particular is Minsky's - a show that is on its way to Broadway! Minsky's is a racy musical comedy set in a time when entertainment was about bawdy comedians and dazzling chorines. It’s a world reigned over by the king of burlesque, Billy Minsky—until the day he falls in love and the cops come banging on his door! From the creators of The Drowsy Chaperone and the composer of Annie.

Casey is the Associate Director on Minsky's, and has been involved with two developmental workshops of the piece, as well as months of pre-production. As Associate Director, Casey collaborates with director Casey Nicholaw, who has worked at NC Theatre as choreographer for My Fair Lady before heading to Broadway to choreograph Spamalot. Nicholaw was also the director and choreographer for Broadway's The Drowsy Chaperone, winner of five Tony Awards. They work on all aspects of the show together - from the early stages of pre-production to maintaining the show once it is open and running. They also work together to create the dance numbers, and are involved in staging, casting and working with the designers of the show.

Some of the cast of Minsky's includes George Wendt, best known as "Norm" from Cheers, Rachel Dratch from Saturday Night Live and Beth Leavel - a Raleigh native and Tony Award winner for Drowsy Chaperone. Beth was in the NCT productions of Funny Girl, Hello, Dolly! and our first production of West Side Story!

Minsky's is in previews now and opens this Friday, February 6th and runs through March 1st at the Ahmanson Theatre at the Music Center in downtown Los Angeles. Casey will be back in Raleigh in March for Miss Saigon rehearsals!

MISS SAIGON Flies Into Raleigh Memorial Auditorium March 21

North Carolina Theatre and Progress Energy are thrilled to present Miss Saigon, the classic love story of our time based on Puccini’s opera, Madame Butterfly. The show will run Saturday, March 21st through Sunday, March 29th in Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

From the creators of the Broadway smash-hit Les Miserables comes a story of love, loss and sacrifice during the fall of Saigon. The story of Miss Saigon centers on the romance between a strong-willed Vietnamese woman, Kim, and an American soldier, Chris, during the Vietnam War. The Chicago Sun-Times raves “Miss Saigon – the musical epic. Grand in ambition, lushly melodic, extravagant in emotion, formidable in stagecraft, consistently fascinating.”
